Your home's Bilko Index will be calculated on-line as you fill out the product usage survey. This survey asks for four pieces of information about each product used in your home, and looks something like this:
1) the product's contribution to the Bilko Index is less than one half, and rounds to zero,
2) the product has no active ingredients (this applies to pesticides; the contribution to Bilko Index for cleansers includes both inactive and active ingredients), or
3) toxicity values for the product's ingredients are unavailable.
There is a serious shortfall in toxicity information for many chemicals that are widely used in the United States.   As new or revised toxicity information becomes available, it will be incorporated into the Bilko Index calculator. If a product's contribution to the Bilko Index is zero because toxicity values are unavailable, a window will pop up that gives you the name of the ingredient whose toxicity information is inadequate. Click on the "OK" button to close the popup window and continue adding products. Similarly, if a product's contribution to the Bilko Index is zero because the product contains no active ingredients, a window will pop up to indicate that this is the case.
